Staff Wellbeing

Padgate Academy: Prioritising Staff Well-being

At Padgate Academy, we are committed to fostering a culture that places the professional growth and well-being of our staff at the core of our values. Recognising that the quality of teaching directly impacts student achievement, we strive to provide optimal conditions for our staff to thrive.

Our approach revolves around building high levels of professional trust, as research suggests that those working in supportive environments are more effective. To support our staff, we have outlined our commitments in the Workload Charter, which encapsulates our ethos and the actions taken to cultivate this culture.

Key Commitments: Marking and feedback

We adopt a sensible approach to marking, devolving policies to departments within evidence-informed frameworks. Our focus is on assessing the effectiveness of curriculum design in helping students acquire and retain knowledge

Meetings

After-school meetings are limited and adhere to the school calendar, lasting no more than an hour. The Thursday twilight meeting cycle is designed to accommodate staff with family commitments, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness.

Data collection

We conduct two data collections per academic year for each year group, with a formative approach to utilise data effectively.

Behaviour and culture

A high standard of behavior is crucial for an effective curriculum. Our behaviour system is focused on the promotion of positive conduct and underpinned by our PRIDE values. Detentions are centralised, and parents/carers are promptly informed of consequences.

Email Protocol

We encourage a healthy email culture through our ’email protocol guidance’ document, outlining guidelines for staff.

Professional Learning

Departments receive significant time within the school day for subject-specific professional learning. Staff have opportunities for personalised professional learning, supporting teaching and leadership development.

Evidence-Informed Practice

We introduce initiatives backed by evidence to improve student provision, ensuring thoughtful implementation with staff workload considerations.

Pedagogy

We celebrate diverse teaching styles, encouraging staff to use evidence-informed approaches.

At Padgate Academy, we are dedicated to creating an environment where our staff can flourish, ensuring their well-being is a priority.
